Resident planning

1989 coincided with the peak of Taiwan's economic bubble. Like the rise of the Shell-less Snail Movement, it was the first time people experienced the gaping wealth disparity in a free society. The rat race seemed to cover everyone's ears as they were blindly tossed about by history. The democratic movement at the time was striving to abolish Article 100 of the Criminal Code, and it seemed as if the people's quest for freedom was on the verge of seeing the light. But with the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, as well as the Tiananmen Incident in the same year, history seemed to constantly teeter along the brink of starting a new chapter and being destroyed by a distant and uncontrollable force. What kind of value, norms, and expectations from others would the concept of unemployment ultimately touch upon in this era? The values of society continue to collide, while the meaning of life gradually disintegrates. If even the self-numbing pursuit of material wealth cannot be achieved, what kind of Taiwan would an unemployed man see in this unavoidable stage of life?
