About TLB
Inside Our Facilities
After opening to the public in 2020, TLB has expanded beyond No. 25 and 27, Section 2, Jinan Road to include the Japanese-style buildings at No. 2-10, Lane 53 of Qidong Street as well as No. 12-16 Happy Meadow, Lane 53.
Exhibitions, cross-domain performances, writers-in-residence programs, courses, lectures, and local day study activities that reflect topics and subjects of contemporary interest and promote creative writing will be regularly organized to help the public participate fully in the TLB campus’ literary and cultural atmosphere. We hope that all visitors will, in addition to learning about the stories from history, learn from each other and kindle a love for literature and community knowledge.
We look forward to the TLB becoming a place where all are welcome to relax and share. In this space, everyone can get close to, interpret, and appreciate literature in their own way and infuse Taiwanese literature into everyday life.
Qidong House
Qidong House gets its name from 'Qidong Poetry House', the predecessor of TLB. Qidong House will house permanent exhibitions that contrast the present with the past and showcase architectural as well as literary vignettes through Taipei’s changing postwar political, economic, and urban landscape, showing the unquestionable damage that has been done to the city’s architectural and literary heritage. Qidong House will further showcase the creation of TLB and its significance in promoting the cross-domain adaptation of literature and in the application of literature IP.
Qidong House has inherited the name of the predecessor organization of the Taiwan Literature Base, which was "Qidong Poetry House".
The permanent exhibition ”The Birth of the Taiwan Literature Base - A New Chapter of the Old House” presents then-and-now contrasts of buildings and literary scenes. The exhibit shows rare scenes and memories of bygone days.
Joy of Reading Hall
Joy of Reading Hall is open to parent-child and older-adult activities and picture-book reading. The sunken tatami room is a multi-functional activity space. People can freely sit on the tatami mats and wooden chairs and immerse themselves in the elegance of this reading environment. The open-concept restoration of the ceiling in this room left the building’s wooden structure visible, showing off the traditional Taiwanese-Japanese post-and-beam architecture.
On a tatami mat or in a wooden chair, visitors can immerse themselves in this quiet, elegant reading environment.
A space for reading that is friendly for parents and children alike.
Muse Garden
Muse Garden provides an independent, secluded, and comfortable environment for writers-in-residence. A different literary theme is featured every quarter. In addition to allowing creative writers to concentrate on writing, Muse Garden also holds a regular weekend workshop for writers-in-residence to interact with the public, providing a rare and unvarnished glimpse into the daily writing experience and mental journey of creative writers.
Muse Garden, the temporary residence of writers-in-residence, provides an independent, private, and comfortable environment.
Muse Garden also hosts activities on weekends for writers to meet readers, allowing readers to see where writers spend their day.
Literature House
Literature House is a dedicated space for NMTL and its 25 associated literary museum members to hold exhibitions and activities. The glass house next to Literary House can host independent events or be used as a Literary House exhibition annex. The large floor-to-ceiling windows in the glass house enclose a space that may be used as a small stage or exhibition space.
Literature House is where the National Museum of Taiwan Literature holds its exhibitions and activities in Taipei City.
In association with 35 literary halls and museums nationwide, Literature House also hosts irregular exhibitions on literature and multidisciplinary topics.
Creative Workshop
As the main space for lectures, courses, workshops, cross-domain exhibitions, and other activities, Creative Workshop retains the layout and structure of its original Japanese-era dormitory house with added custom-made tables, chairs, and digital equipment, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Japanese architecture while taking part in literary activities.
Creative Workshop is the primary space for lectures, courses, workshops, and multidisciplinary exhibitions / performances.
This Japanese-era dormitory house has been restored to its original form, allowing visitors to participate in literary activities in an environment rich in traditional Japanese ambiance.
Exhibition Hall
Exhibition Hall is the main venue for specially themed exhibitions at TLB. Exhibitions here are no longer limited to one-way discussions or presentations of pure literature, published works, or displays. Instead, “tactile literature” will be a key emphasis here that works to create an interactive space of imagination that is ready and able to inject new vitality into Taiwanese culture.
Exhibition Hall is a space for literature-related special exhibitions.
New vigor is injected into Taiwanese literature through special projects that stimulate interaction and imagination.
