Introduction

Born in Sanchong, New Taipei City, Su directed the short film "My Last Homework" and the documentary "My Way". In 2020, Su started to learn how to create picture books and tried to preserve her cherished memories with picture books. In 2022, the first picture book "Windy Day" was published by the Yunlin Storyteller Association. Today, the aim to preserve the memories of her family in Yunlin serves as the catalyst for starting point for the creation of picture books.

Resident planning

The picture book "The Fish Who Lives on the Moon" is based on my mother's memories of her relationship with her great-grandmother. The story begins with a morning conversation between my mother, then a seven-year-old girl, and her great-grandmother, who was then 80 years old. The dialogue between the two is like a reverie in a dream, using World War II-era Yunlin as the setting, depicting the moods of ordinary citizens in the midst of the turbulent times. During air raids, the great-grandmother was unable to see and move quickly because of her bound feet, so she had to stay home alone. Before my mother’s family left for a shelter, they covered great-grandmother with a wet blanket, a way to protect her in case a bomb fell. During my residency, I plan to not only completed drafts of my sketches, but also hold workshops to create "visual, auditory, and tactile" memories with the audience.
